Designed for ease of use across a range of field deployments, our field collection tools include sample preservation without the need for complex cold-chain logistics or immediate freezing.
eCODE sampling kits are easy to use and built to suit different field collection methods. These are optional add-ons to your metabarcoding services. Filter kits expire 12 months after delivery due to the preservative breaking down. Contact us of you would like to purchase replacement preservative.
How It Works
eCODE’s workflow is built to eliminate field logistics headaches
Because our specialized preservative keeps your samples completely stable at room temperature, there is absolutely no freezing, refrigeration, or cold-chain shipping required. This allows you to collect samples in remote locations with total confidence and minimal gear.
- Order your field kits: Select the filter configuration that best fits your survey needs, whether that includes our standard filter and housing for simple, standalone use, or a filter and housing sized to work with your existing filtration equipment.
- Collect samples and preserve filters on-site: Using your own water sampling equipment, collect your samples and filter them through the provided filter housing. Once the water is filtered, simply apply the provided room-temperature stable preservative directly to the filter. Because our preservative halts degradation immediately, you can confidently skip the coolers, dry ice, and heavy refrigeration equipment entirely.
- Return the kits to eCODE with your submission form: With your samples safely preserved and stable at ambient temperatures, you can ship them back to us using standard logistics, no expensive cold-chain freight required.

Syringe Kit

A fully manual kit designed for use without any active filtration system. It can be easily deployed with any standard water collection protocol.
Contents:
- 60 mL syringe
- 3 mL syringe loaded with 1.5 ml preservative
- 48 mm syringe filter with luer lock end (available in 1.2 µm or 5 µm pore size)
- Two luer caps
- Nitrile gloves
Our filter holders are reusable, but we strongly recommend reusing them only after they have been fully sterilized.
Pro-tip: Keep a few syringe kits on hand as a reliable backup in case your active filtration equipment fails mid-survey.
Note: You will need to provide the tubing that attaches to the filter holder. The included adapter allows for 1/4” tubing, but please contact us if you require alternative sizes.
Active-Filtration Kit

Designed to be fully compatible with any peristaltic pump, vacuum, or pressure-based filtration systems you already use in the field.

- 48 mm reusable filter holder loaded with flat filter inside (available in 1.2 µm or 5 µm pore size)
- Tubing adapter (Luer slip adapter for 1/4” diameter hose)
- Sterile tweezers
- 2 mL vial
- 3 mL syringe loaded with 1.5 mL preservative
- Nitrile gloves
